Bio- UV-Visible Spectrophotometer
Contact person: John Bass
Location: Latimer Hall 726 (Katz Lab)
This Cary 400 UV-Vis spectrophotometer is configured about 50% of the time for transmission experiments in the liquid phase and the rest of the time for diffuse reflectance measurement of solids using the Praying Mantis accessory at ambient conditions. The double-beam spectrophotometer offers very high sensitivity over a wide spectra range. The rear beam attenuation capability can be used for highly absorbing samples, up to a maximum absorbance of 7. This Cary 400 instrument complements the UV-visible spectrophotometer available in the Catalysis Center by performing measurements on solids not requiring controlled atmosphere conditions as well as liquid-phase measurements.
The purchase of this equipment was made possible through a generous grant from the Varian Corporation.
